Citabria Aircraft Insurance
Champion aircraft started producing the Citabria in 1964. Citabria aircraft were built after the successful run of Aeronca aircraft, manufactured in the early 1950s. Citabria have been proven aerobatic aircraft and a leader in the industry for decades. Because of its rich history and proven track record of performance and safety, Citabria aircraft insurance is easy to obtain and relatively inexpensive. Almost all aviation insurance companies will offer competitive Citabria insurance terms due to the long-term understanding of the aircrafts’ characteristics. Travers Aviation Insurance is here to help navigate the aviation insurance market and help place Citabria insurance policies with the most competitive and solid aircraft insurance company available.
Bellanca acquired Champion aircraft in 1970. Since then, Champion aircraft designed and produced other variants of the Citabria. Later the company was acquired by American Champion Aircraft Corporation and has thrived deep into the 21st century.
The Aeronca Champ was an early variant, and quickly proved itself as a safe and affordable aircraft. The Aeronca Champ leads directly to the Citabria. The rear window and other modifications were made, improving, and transforming the Aeronca Champ into the Citabria. Historically, this line of aircraft, including 7ECA, 7GCAA, and 7GCBC variants has proven easy, safe, and affordable to insure.
Insuring high-time or experienced pilots in Citabria aircraft is simple and can be inexpensive. Insurance is available for pilots new to aviation at a reasonable aviation insurance cost. Citabria aviation insurance rates are some of the lowest in the industry.
Citabria aircraft insurance cost is determined by several factors. The hull value of the aircraft is a significant element: insuring a Citabria aircraft with a higher hull value will typically cost more than insuring a Citabria with a lower hull value. Pilot experience is another key component: insuring an experienced pilot with tail wheel aircraft experience and aerobatic flying experience will generally cost less than insuring a Student pilot or a new Private pilot.
Citabria insurance for Private pilots transitioning from a tricycle gear aircraft can be purchased at a reasonable cost. Most of the insurance companies will require a tail wheel endorsement from an insurance company-approved CFI. In some cases, the insurance companies will require additional tail wheel training or training in the Citabria prior to solo flight for a transitioning pilot. Training requirements for Citabria aircraft in most cases are less stringent than other aircraft due to the history, safety features, and nature of the aircraft.
Citabria insurance policies are designed and tailored to the individual pilot and use. The insurance company will typically name pilots on the policy as “Named Pilots”. In some cases, the insurance company will include an Open Pilot Warranty, Open Pilot Clause, or Additional Pilot Clause. This extra pilot wording, if included, will be listed in your individual aircraft insurance policy. An Open Pilot Warranty, if included on a Citabria insurance policy, will normally include a minimum number of total logged pilot hours, minimum tail wheel hours, and minimum make-and-model experience hours. Some Citabria insurance policies will not include an Open Pilot Warranty. These policies are sometimes referred to as “Named Pilots Only” policies.
Citabria aircraft insurance policies can include Aircraft Hull coverage and Aircraft Liability coverage if purchased. Aircraft Hull insurance is intended to cover the actual aircraft itself in the event of a covered hull loss. Most Citabria policies will include a listed hull value. Aircraft Liability insurance is probably the most important coverage an aircraft operator can purchase. Citabria Aircraft Liability insurance can usually be purchased for a reasonable premium. Liability insurance is intended to protect the insured in the event of covered bodily injury to others or property damage.
The Citabria is a versatile aircraft used for a variety of purposes. It is important to read your insurance policy and make sure your use of the aircraft is a covered use. If you are using your Citabria for airshows, aerobatic flying, or any other use, it is important to make sure the use is covered on your policy.
